The term «ecological consciousness» is a relatively new concept in modern sociology, social ecology and environmental psychology, as well as in all science. The need to study environmental consciousness arose only in the twentieth century, when the society began the process of understanding the destructive consequences of its life, leading to environmental problems, crises and eventually to a global environmental catastrophe. At this time, there were philosophical, ecological, psychological and sociological studies that sought to understand and explain the interaction in the system «man-society-nature», which led to the formulation of the problem of the formation of ecological consciousness.
