The article discusses the political aspects of the transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin alphabet, as well as presents various opinions of the Kazakh society on the transition of the national language to the Latin alphabet. As is known, from the moment of gaining Independence of Kazakhstan, there has been a wide discussion around the Latinization about the need for language reform. On this issue, the public opinion of the Kazakh society is conditionally divided by the authors into two groups: the group supporting this reform and believing that latinization contributes to the integration of Kazakhstan with the Turkic-speaking countries; a group that opposes the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet and claims that the transition leads to the loss of the cultural heritage of the Kazakh people. The authors emphasize that the transition to the Latin script has a deep historical meaning, and according to the authors, in the era of modern digital technologies, the country needs language modernization.
