Abstract

This article examines the role of professionals – psychologists, speech therapists and teachers – in the social adaptation of children with autism spectrum disorders in Kazakhstan. The aim of the study is to assess how professional interventions influence the integration of children with autism spectrum disorders into society and to identify the main challenges faced by both professionals and families. The study is based on qualitative methods, including structured interviews with professionals working in special education centers in the Almaty region. The results highlight several key challenges faced by children with autism spectrum disorders, including communication barriers, sensory processing difficulties, social misconceptions and institutional limitations. The results support the hypothesis that specialized interventions have a positive impact on the social adaptation of children with autism spectrum disorders. However, the study also highlights the urgent need for raising public awareness, improving professional training and strengthening institutional support. This study contributes to the scientific understanding of interventions for autism spectrum disorders in Kazakhstan by providing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of current practices and remaining gaps. The study highlights the need for a multifaceted approach integrating education, health, and social policies to promote the development of an inclusive society. These findings may be useful to educators and mental health professionals seeking to develop comprehensive support systems for children with autism spectrum disorders and their families, as well as to government officials working in this field.
